Hot water, a stir, and twenty to forty seconds of gentle pressure on the plunger is the whole method. Total immersion pulls the extraction evenly across the grounds, and the microfilter catches the grit a French press leaves in the bottom of the cup, so what you get is rich rather than bitter or sharp. Cleanup is one push of the plunger over the bin.
